Never mind…

This was Saturday afternoon. What started out beautiful turned to spitting snow on us. It was over a hundred degrees just three days before in the valley. I feel like I’m in Montana! 🥶

Later it turned better!

On Sunday we did the same thing.

A Beautiful Day To Be In The Woods!

Out of My Element Today

Beautiful day in San Francisco.

Morning Light Evening Light

This morning the light on the ridge was glorious! A harbinger of a beautiful day. Then it began to drizzle. When the light faded it went quickly. Last week was a beautiful evening that made the entire sky glow. I took pictures in all directions.

“Bull of the Woods” On the Block!

This week is the Forestry Education Auction. If you’not familiar with this let me explain. Each year, at the Sierra Cascade Logging Conference Forestry Education Dinner and Auction, Mary A Livingston (my lovely bride) and I contribute two paintings to go on the auction block. There are many items being auctioned, but what’s different about our contribution is we go head to head in a husband vs wife bidding war! Only, we aren’t the ones bidding. What could possibly go wrong. The winning bidder gets to pick the painting they want and the other goes back on the block. The bidders don’t know which painting the other bidders are bidding on! It’s great entertainment, at least to Mary and me. I reblogged her entry on my previous post. I must say that I’m intrigued because there is a mystery behind her painting.

Bull of the Woods

This painting is in rememberence and is a tribute to Jim Headrick. He was a fourth generation logger, Logger of Year, a true professional and an all around good man. He is missed. Cheers Jim!

Final Reveal, Almost

It’s time for the Forestry Education Auction and here is my competition!

My art is back from the framer. I’d say that Image West did a fabulous job. Worth every penny. We are happy with the results.

For the uninitiated, Tim and I have our own personal art competition each year at the annual Lumberjack Auction Dinner hosted by Sierra Cascade Logging Conference. This auction benefits the education programs of Sierra-Cascade Environmental and Resource Fund, a charity near and dear to our hearts. The originals will be on display at the Red Tail Publishing booth during the conference.

I have to tell you, not doing a final reveal today is killing me. I promised to keep the inspiration for this piece confidential until the auction on Friday night. So here is all you get today. Last year Tim trounced me. I’m hoping for a bit of redemption. I sure hope that keeping this close to the vest doesn’t give him an…

Super Moonset!

Bad weather prevented us from viewing the lunar eclipse last week. However, in the morning I was treated to a spectacular moonset.

I’m waiting for one of those cows to jump!

Mt Shasta Morning

Wild Wednesday … Great Horned Owl

We walked down a washed out road until we stood on a landing. Mary and I watched the light fade from the sky. Perched in a black oak tree, another hunter joined us. It was a solitary great horned owl beginning it’s evening hunt.

Moonrise Sunset

Moonrise was beautiful tonight. I took a picture of it. Then I turned around and took a picture of the sunset.

Moon, moonrise, sunset
