He’s only a 3 x 3, but he’s one big black tail. Our black tail bucks don’t usually have as many points as white tails the same age.
This is his championship confirmation pose. He’s a winner.
This shot was a little fuzzy, but you can see how wide he is. I would estimate 28″ to 30″.
A lot of deer come down to the foothills to winter. I saw this big black tail buck on the way home last week. He wasn’t far from the house. The rut is going on right now and hunting season has been over for awhile, so the deer are unconcerned with people. It’s a great time to shoot them with the camera.

How lucky to be in such a lovely place and to have the chance to see such a lovely creature, though in the New Forest Hampshire UK which is very near to me, we do have them. Lovely creatures.

It’s nice this time of years, because more of them are in the low country, and they aren’t as easily spooked. It makes this a nice time to photograph them.

Wow, that’s a nice rack he has. I haven’t seen any of our bucks yet, but I scared up a bunch of turkey when I went to get the mail today. Noisy bunch as they took off for the trees.

I like this time of year. The deer migrate out of the high country to the valley and we have lots of them around. Our turkeys have been a bit scarce though. They’re probably trying to stay dry somewhere.

I just ordered a piece of buck antler for my friend’s dog from Amazon for Christmas. $20. You could make a killing just picking up antlers! J/k. Beautiful animals!
