“Blitz” Redtail’s Rogue Lightening SH
Mary and I couldn’t have asked for a better companion than Blitz. She grew to be the perfect dog. She rode shotgun with me for over seven years traveling the back roads of Northern California. Featuring her in my blog posts felt a little like cheating because she was so lovable. Here is her life in pictures. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Blitz passed from our lives last Friday. We miss her dearly. Your comments are welcome and appreciated, but we probably won’t respond to them. Please don’t take offense.

lights up a purple sky
and as I wonder where you are
I’m so lonesome I could cry

Tim, I hope it will be a bit of comfort for you and Mary to realize that Blitz will hardly notice the difference between his earthy life with you and dog-heaven. What a perfect life he had with your family.
When one of our pets dies, we still feel it around us for some time. I always wonder how much is phantom pain and how much is the loyal pet trying to whisper ‘I’m fine’.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I still miss my shepherd from about 15 years ago. He was my boy before I got married and had kids. Had him until my kids were about second and forth grade. I have had a few other dogs since then and none have had my heart until recently. I have a new shepherd puppy and she has my heart. I understand your pain and hope you find some comfort.

Even though I knew where this was going, and I usually avoid these because I get emotional, I kept reading and viewing. You have so honoured your dog with magnificent photos that the happy times overcome the sadness of the passing. Thanks for showing us all how to honour our dogs and their service to us.

Oh, so sorry! I’m beginning to think we should learn to enjoy tortoises for companions, as they’re the ones that might possibly outlive us. Otherwise, it’s an agreement when we take them in, that we will love our dogs unconditionally…and see them live their entire life. It’s always so hard. My thoughts are with you.

Having had many goldens, I have come to accept that our cherished animals come and bring joy in our hearts — and then they pass — always too fast. This is sooo hard! You have my most cherished thoughts with you -)

“Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

I’m very sorry… I often say that it’s not fair that they live such short lives [compared to us that is]. I know how hard this is but I think she’s in that perfect doggy paradise with lots of love and treats!
