I have a squirrel related question that I’d love answered. Will a hawk eat squirrel? Or would a squirrel bite and it’s not worth it. Do you know? I often see a squirrel and hawk both in the yard and never see an attack. What do you know, Forester Tim?

Funny you ask Linda. Mary and I watched a red tailed hawk pluck a big fat gray squirrel out of a tree last fall. So the answer is absolutely yes!

I too have seen hawks stalking squirrels, and eating them. They used to hang out by my daughter’s softball field, and squirrels are definitely a favorite meal.

Thank you Iris! Sadly, only January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day, but if you and I appreciate them every day, I won’t tell. 😉 Besides I know Bliss, my dog, appreciates them every day.
