Tim,
I love your photo–bee and flower. I feel like I’m witnessing it live. How large does manzanita grow? Are mountains or other things in the area with the name Manzanita? I love the sound of the word.
Manzanita is a brush species and can get to about 10′ tall. Probably the most famous local “manzanita” landmark is Manzanita Lake located in Lassen National Park. Most foresters view manzanita as a pain in the behind after spending the day fighting their way through it.
Tim,
Are you familiar with Mountain Laurel? Does this grow in a similar fashion? Sorry to hear that it’s difficult to blaze your way through. It is beautiful to the beholder! Thanks for sharing a lake named after manzanita.

I had to look it up. I don’t think the two have much in common.
