When they see me coming they “slide” into the water.
Windy or calm they’ve been out in force.

That’s what I thought too. I was lucky they didn’t all jump off when I stopped to take they’re picture. They usually spook pretty easy.

You see the most unusual animals – and reptiles. I had no idea that those turtles could live in cold water. But then again I think I’ve only seen them in warm Petco aquariums. The only other reptiles I’ve seen down here are in the news😉. Great pictures as always! Btw – how did you know the turtle’s name?

If you mean that they’re red-eared sliders, I had to look them up. I didn’t know what they were until I was putting this post together. If you mean “Yertle”, I ripped that off from Dr Seuss! The difference between our local reptiles 🐢 and yours 🐍 are that ours are genuine!

Some years ago I lived in Denmark close to a big lake. Unfortunately some not responsible owners of animals, also turtles, leave their animals in the natural areas and think, that they are able to survive there by themselves. This is not fair, when they have been used to get food from the owners before. I met many turtles, when I walked there. Sometimes it gets so cold, that the lake are freezing. Many times I have thought and hoped for them to be able to survive anyway. I met many kind of animals in nature, who were not belonging either there or in Danish climate at all. Many did not survive.

That’s ver sad. People can be so thoughtless. We live in an area where people often dump pets. Most often dogs or puppies, even an emu once. We take them to the local shelter.

I agree, it is very sad. We found mostly cats, dogs, snakes, turtles, special birds in this area, where there were both forest and lake. When we could, we brought them to shelters too, but it was not always possible.

I think, that all of us felt bad for the poor animals, who were dumped in this not human way and tried our best to help them.
