The colored version looks really great. The black and white one very striking and well drawn, but the color one appeals to me more and the watercolor works perfectly with ink drawing. 🙂
I do all the pen and ink first, then I come back over with the watercolor. I tested all of my inks a while back to make sure they were water fast. In this picture I used a Staedtler 0.05 pigment liner and my refillable Lamy fountain pens. The refillable had Platinum Carbon Black ink.
Great! l like how the color so nicely works with the under inking, and the wooden log is textured. I really enjoyed this. Of course you are masterful at bringing out the layers in the fur.
Your the first to go for the straight ink, which is what I typically do. However, you’re right, it has to be color for the picture book. I do think the color has a nice pop to it.
They both look great, but the colors make him look cuddly, which a Fisher sure isn’t, so I woulnd’t want children to think they’d like to hold one. Isn’t it fun we all have our likes.
I prefer the colored one 🙂

Thank you! I’m glad you like the color. I do so much black and white, but since this is for a picture books it has to be in color.

I like the color. What is a Pacific Fisher? A kind of otter?

It’s related to the otters, but it is basically a big weasel, about the size of a big house cat.

Thanks Tim I’ve never heard of this animal. I guessed a sort of a Martin.

Yes, for the picture book it has to have color. It’s fun to put them both out for review. It reminds me of color verses black and white photography.

You know I like doing the black and white, but it’s fun to change it up. It’s interesting to me to ask because I can’t predict what folks will prefer.

Definitely the one with colour, especially as it´s supposed to be for kids! Beautiful work! 😊👍

You’re right Judy, wouldn’t want the kids snuggling a fisher. It’s a good thing they could never catch one!

True…and you made me chuckle. I don’t want to catch one, either, but I’m sure glad I caught a look at your art.
