Lovely drawing, as always. When I lived in SoCal, the quail family in my yard could have used a good lookout. Blue jay swooped down and grabbed a youngster. It was mom’s fault. She flapped up to the top of a retaining wall and the little ones were too young to fly yet. I was particularly flustered because I had just rushed out and saved them from my cat when the jay struck. Ah, nature…

He’s quite the handsome male quail. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a live one. Indiana is supposed to have a quail species, but it and pheasant numbers are rather low.
