Thank you so much, but don’t be intimidated. You have a lovely style and it is our differences that make art so interesting! Besides, when I mess up with pen and ink, I just start over.
Tim, not being from your neck of the planet I take it that the Killdeer is a type of plover or dotterel? Does it get its name from its call ? All the best from ‘downunder’, Leonie
You nailed it Leonie. It’s a plover-like bird and the name comes from its call. It’s famous in these parts for its feigned broken wing ploy to lead predators away from its young.
Wonderful work! Every year, a nesting pair chooses to use a slight hollow in the gravel parking lot of our church as “home”, so now 4 plastic construction “cones” mark that specific spot during the nesting season… They are amazing birds, and your drawing does them beautiful justice!
That’s beautiful. Pen-and-ink intimidates me very much.

I love it! I’ll have to tell a blogging friend about this post. We were talking about killdeer this past month.

Nice pen and colored ink rendition of an adult Killdeer Tim! The chicks are fun to paint too.

Thanks Susan! I’ve been watching for the chicks, but haven’t seen them yet. Mary found a shell form a hatched egg. So we know they’re around.

Nice pen and ink drawing. I am not sure if we have them here. I seem to have a memory of seeing them running very fast along the ground. True?

Yes true. They will always run away unless you get to close. Then they fly.
