Pure Americana Lumberjacks’ Picnic

This weekend we had the good fortune to attend the 66th Annual Lumberjack Fiesta.    It was pure Americana like a Norman Rockwell painting.  The Fiesta takes place at Hoo Hoo Park in McCloud, California.  I posted a few iphone photos when we were at the event.  Those pictures didn’t really tell the whole story.  Let me show you around.

What picnic would be complete without a watermelon eating contest! The big boys had to sit on their hands.

  1. Tim,
Thanks for sending readers over to “A Writer’s Playground” to see your blog post about timber sports. I enjoyed having you as a guest.

I love your photo coverage of the lumberjack events. Festivals are a wonderful way to show that history is lively.

        • Although, we camped next to a softball team tent village. They kept the party going until 3am. I woke up at 1:45am when the mobile boom box showed up. The vibrations were more intense than a stadium sound system. I thought Mt Shasta was starting an eruption. Eventually the local friendly deputy showed and encouraged the villagers to go to bed. In the morning it looked like a tornado hit their stash of adult beverages and scattered them everywhere, all while suctioning out all the liquids. Hey… Where were you last Saturday night?

  2. Curiosity question–for the double buck competition, do the participants get to choose where on the log they will cut (i.e., avoid knots…) or does everyone just take their chances? Or doesn’t it matter?

  3. I wouldn’t have guessed there’s a place called Hoo Hoo Park. That sent me searching, and at

    Snakebite wound

I found this: “The Hoo-Hoo’s are a fraternal organization for those working in the forest products industry. Their official name is the International Concatenated Order of Hoo-Hoo, Incorporated. The name of the organization is based upon the story ‘The Hunting of the Snark’ by Lewis Carroll.”

    Hoo knew?
