Large Mouth Bass Study

Here is the last one. It was all wet wash technique. I followed it with pen and ink for detail. I like the wet approach although this picture isn’t quite right for the project. Perhaps I need to do the pen and ink first. Any thoughts?

I like the “glow” around the fish, sort of an ethereal quality and it feels like the fish is moving. Also the softness (I guess from the washes) overall.

Thanks you. The lack of control from the wash combined with the total control of the pen and ink has an odd synergistic effect that I like.

Tim, first off I love watercolorists that have the discipline to not over kill the subject with unnecessary color. (I do that all the time) But what I like best about your art is the draftsmanship in drawing. You draw well, which adds about 150% to any painting.

  Thank you. I had a teacher tell me years ago that if your base drawing isn’t right you won’t be able to make the painting look right, no matter how well you execute the color. It made sense to me.
